the maker behind the monsters

Hi, I’m Raven.

Artist, maker, animal lover, and firm believer that cute and creepy belong together.

xo, Raven

how it all started

Making things that are a little spooky, a lot cute.

Acutealypse started with handmade catnip toys and a head full of seedling ideas. Since then it’s grown into a little bit of everything: drawings, acrylic paintings, wire-wrapped crystals, sewing and crochet, and now stickers, bookmarks and lanyards made from my art. I don’t want it stuck in one box. If an idea is cute and a little creepy, it’s fair game.

Every so often the drawing wanders beyond the coven, too. I illustrated the whole island world of Friends Ahoy, from its fleet of boats to its crew-role badges.

I’m a cute person at heart who also loves horror and anything spooky, and Acutealypse is where those two get to hang out together. Most pieces start as a seedling idea, get sketched out on the screen, then get drawn, redrawn and fussed over until they feel right.

what drives the work

Notes stuck above my desk

Spooky-cute by design

The sweet spot between adorable and eerie is exactly where I live. If it’s a skull with a flower on it, we’re in business.

Original art, always

Every design starts as one of my own drawings. No templates, no stock art. Just my own drawings and a lot of love.

Small shop, on purpose

Staying small means I can stand behind every piece and actually talk to the people who take them home.

Community first

The spooky-cute coven is incredibly warm. I make work for people who feel a little strange and love it.

the prophecy

So… what’s an Acutealypse?

[ uh · kyoot · uh · lips ] · noun · the revelation (or) prophecy and universal widespread of all things cute and creepy.

It’s a playful little end of the world, one where spooky becomes safe, soft, and lovable, and the cuteness wins. Every ghost gets a hug. Every skull gets a flower. You’re invited.

from the workbench

Made by hand, start to finish

Every catnip coffin was cut, stitched and stuffed right here, then packed up and sent off with care.

Stitched in the hoop.

Ready to haunt a new home.

Packed by hand.

quality control

Approved by the toughest critics

Every handmade toy got tested by someone with very high standards and absolutely no manners.

Wand approved.

Bone claimed.

Coffin: occupied.

The toy workshop is taking a little catnap for now.

A little more Raven

  • Halloween is basically a year-round state of mind. October is just when everyone else catches up.
  • These days most pieces start on the screen, not on paper. Sketching ideas out in Concepts and a few other apps saves me so much time.
  • I share my home with a very good dog and a very good snake.
  • If you’ve ever thought “cute, but make it slightly unsettling,” that’s my brain at all times.
  • I think cute, I love horror, and I’ve never seen a reason to pick just one.

let’s be friends

Come hang out.

I love hearing from spooky-cute people, horror fans, pet people of every kind (fur, feathers or scales), collectors, and anyone who feels at home here. Come say hi, show me your little ones, or just tell me what you’d love to see next.

Happy haunting, Raven
